A Fine Mess (Tim Floyd)

I’m tempted to make a “Haven’t you folks from LA already learned about messing with folks named O.J.?” joke, but I shall refrain. However, in light of Tim Floyd’s self-imposed excommunication from USC, I’m wondering why on earth he didn’t take the Arizona job. He, better than anyone, knew what was coming down the pipe concerning the O.J. Mayo mess. Lest we forget, Floyd was also displeased with all of his players leaving for the professional leagues.
So again, why on earth did he not bolt for the more prestigious Arizona Wildcats basketball team, especially when there were reports of an offer being on the table? Incidentally, in the linked article, Fox Sports’ Jeff Goodman says of Tim Floyd:
Floyd would give stability to a program that desperately needs it.
Is that real irony or Alanis Morissette irony? Wasn’t the speculation about Mayo and Floyd already public knowledge before the Arizona offer was made?
Back to Floyd and Arizona; obviously, if they find he gave money to Mayo’s handler, there would be ramifications, regardless if he was at L.A. or Tuscon. Furthermore, Arizona probably would’ve fired him if he was found to be dirty. All of that, however, doesn’t explain why Floyd didn’t take the Arizona job — unless he didn’t want to drag another school through the mud. Especially one that was offering him a chance to coach at a place with far more basketball relevance than the USC Trojans.
Perhaps that’s a little bit fairy tale-ish, but the fact Floyd quietly feel on his sword with a quick note of resignation, it does stand to reason. This is all speculation on my part and the only person that could lend credence to it is Floyd himself, but turning down a job like Arizona to stay in Pete Carroll’s incredibly large shadow — especially when you are unhappy with the make up of your incoming team — doesn’t make much sense either.

I think he went to the first place that would allow OJ to be OJ.

Seems to me like these one and done, two and done players are all trouble (see Derrick Rose ). I just hope John Wall doesn’t fall into the same category. That’s all UK needs is more NCAA yayhoos snooping around trying to drudge up any kind of dirt they can. Oh and Pat Forde can SAFD!!! Just had to throw that one in there
