Crashing big parties and dances that you otherwise may not be invited to is always a treat, especially this time of year. Not wanting to miss out on this type of fun, the San Diego Toreros overcame some hot shooting by the 22-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs in order to win the West Coast Conference tournament and to secure an automatic bid to the Big Dance, starting next Thursday (Tuesday if you count the play-in game).

Not only did the Toreros achieve all of these goals, they also snapped a 13-game losing streak to everybody’s en-vogue Cinderella pick. The Toreros victory also promises the West Coast Conference will have two bids to the Big Dance, taking a spot from one of the remaining bubble teams (teams like Florida and Syracuse).

Other mid-major tournament winners from last night:

George Mason
Sienna
Davidson

This is what I love about March Madness. There is something pure about college hoops that I absolutely love. The majority of NCAA athletes will not make the “pros” but will be average, career and family minded people like the rest of us. For as much as I like to root for the KUs and North Carolinas of the tournament, deep down inside, I truly would like to see the Gonzagas, Butlers, and George Mason types of team win.

It sure smells like March, doesn’t it? Hats off to the Tereros. This should only help UK, assuming they can make a nice run in the SEC Tourney. As for the other bubble teams, two words. Sorry GAYTORS!!!

  3. Xavier Says:

Nice again Rigs. No three peat GAYTORS. I got a feeling Cats make it further than Cards in tourney too.

I hope Syracuse gets sidelined by this, I’d love to see Jim Boeheim’s head do that Scanners thing on live TV when the selection show ends.
