Kentucky, along with the rest of the college basketball world, held their Madness celebration this past Friday, and the person everyone’s been dying to see — number one recruit John Wall — didn’t disappoint. In fact, his work in the pre-scrimmage layup line even has its own highlight reel, which leads this post. While Wall impressed with his incredible athleticism and open-court abilities, as a whole, Kentucky’s outside shooting seems awfully suspect.

Even Wall’s perimeter shot left something to be desired. This should be an fun problem for John Calipari to deal with as the season progresses. It’ll be interesting to see how the Wildcats handle a 2-3 zone in the middle of February when they travel to somewhere like Vanderbilt of Georgia. Sure, Kentucky will be the more talented team, but effective zones have a way of negating such athleticism, while forcing teams to rely on their half court offense, a place where a team with suspect shooters can struggle.

Nevertheless, Wall’s debut was as effortless as it was impressive. It’s easy to see why Kentucky fans have visions of Wall being all over the court like a water bug, all while getting to the bucket for dramatic finishes that move the crowd.
