Wayne Chism

Some things in life defy description: Stuff like Tila Tequila, naming your child after a mass-murderer and then getting mad when stores say “go sex yourself” because you asked for personalized birthday cakes; the popularity of Nickelback — I could go on. However, there is one such anomaly that goes so far, it seems to defy the very laws of physics:

Wayne Chism’s headband.

While he was systematically taking Marquette down in the second half, Jimmy Dykes and his partner went to long lengths trying to explain the phenomenon that keeps Chism’s headwear from flying into the stands every time he, well, moves his head.

As you can see in the lead graphic, Chism’s headband is actually above his forehead, resting around his hairline. Most headband wearers, like Syracuse’s Jonny Flynn, leave their headband on right above their eyebrows:

Not Chism. Instead, he laughs in the face of your headband traditions and moves the thing toward the top of his dome, while it somehow stays put. What’s even more remarkable is Chism plays in the post for Bruce Pearl, meaning he mixes it up down low quite frequently and if you believe what your eyes tell you, post play in college basketball is not for the meek.

Nevertheless, Chism’s headband stays where he put it, making announcers and fans alike wonder if he’s using Super Glue to hold it in place.

For what it’s worth, I think he’s using toupee tape on the inside of his headband. No other explanation fits because if he was using Super Glue, there’d be scars and scabs all around his noggin because of the potential troubles of removing such a thing.
