After a week early start by Kentucky and Illinois, the rest of the college basketball landscape starts their practices tonight as the Midnight Madness phenomenon really gets going. While it’s popular to criticize Kentucky and their early start — Illinois was noticeably absent from that report — every school in D1 could have exploited the same loophole if they wanted to.

But because it’s the evil empire known as Kentucky, it must have been a nefarious situation. OK, enough with the digression and on to the first practice. Here are some of the details for various notable teams.

Kansas Jayhawks — they are kicking things off with a “Late Night in the Phog.” The festivities begin at 6:30.

North Carolina Tar Heels – They begin practice tonight but the Tar Heels aren’t having their start-of-basketball celebration until next Friday.

UConn Huskies – Their event is simply called “First Night” and it features the men’s and women’s teams. The event opens its doors at 6pm.

Memphis TigersMemphis Madness kicks off tonight at the FedEx Forum at 7pm.

Louisville Cardinals – None but they are having the Red-White game on October 26th.

Duke Blue Devils – No “madness” celebration but they are having the Blue-White scrimmage tomorrow.

For those who so inclined to watch all things college basketball, ESPN will be covering the madness on ESPNU, starting at 9pm.
