And the hits just keep on coming for Billy Gillispie’s first season at the University of Kentucky. Word has just came down from Kentucky.com (via Kentucky Sports Radio) that Patrick Patterson has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left ankle.
Patterson is in a cast and will miss the rest of the season. His injury is expected to keep him on the shelf for eight weeks, which is great news… and just in time for Sunday’s trip to Knoxville when the Cats visit the Tennessee Volunteers.
This has the makings of being a typical ending for this Wildcats’ season, a season that has seen three of its best players, Jodie Meeks, Derrick Jasper, and now Patterson, fighting serious injuries.
The news of Patterson’s injury couldn’t have come at a better time: UK is trying to make a push towards the NCAA Tournament after such a lousy start to their 2007-08 season. Obviously, the Patterson news somewhat derails that thinking now. Maybe the team can rebound from such a devastating blow, but as of now, it’s hard to see where Kentucky is going to get the requisite post play to compete in March.
I guess this news reduces Patterson’s announcement that he’s staying at Kentucky as a no-brainer:
What’s next? Are you going to tell me Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford both have appendicitis and won’t be able to play either? Maybe you can kick my dog on the way out.

Does this team practice on the football field. Come on coach Brooks tell them they have a court to practice on. Now I see why Allen Iverson hates practice so much. If a stud like PP can go down, does Billy G perhaps change his ways. Doubt it. I’m sure this is Tubby’s fault on way or another.

Word is, if Tubby would’ve recruited a bench, this wouldn’t be a problem.

Total bummer. Call this year’s team the Unhealthables. Billy Clyde might want to turn down the NIT bid to avoid any more bad injuries.

Seriously wtf else could happen to this team? Don’t answer that. At least the doctors caught it reasonably quick and P Pat should be fine for the beginning of next season. At UK. Lest hope
I still think this team can play tough enough to make a good run at the NCAAs but I think for this team a game or two or three at home in the NIT would be great for them and our fans and a great way for Crawford and Bradley to end their collegiate careers. Go Big Blue!!!

Lets hope, that is.
