The fourth week of the college football stanza could quite simply be labeled the weekend of the SEC. While USC and Oklahoma enjoyed the pleasures of a bye-week (that’s two for USC already), the boys from the south played a whole lot of football, giving the college football world a good idea about the talent these teams have.
Yes, the NC State/ECU game was entertaining, as was UNC/VTech. Notre Dame/Michigan State was fun too, but obviously, the real fun came after the Spartans dispatched the Irish again. These games also showed why the SEC has superior football. The talent on display down south is eye-opening, and just think, Vanderbilt has entered the top 25 as well; meaning no easy wins this season.
Chomping Knoxville

If it’s lonely at the top, imagine what it feels like when you are getting to the bottom, especially when you are coming off of a trip to the SEC Championship game. Welcome to the life of Phil Fulmer. Yes, his Volunteers got handled by the Gators Saturday, but his team contributed just as much to the downfall of Tennessee as Tim Tebow and company did. Three turnovers, two of them in scoring position, contributed mightily to the Gators 30-6 victory.
Needless to say, all is not well in the land of the Volunteers, something a comment over at LWS’ open thread demonstrated very well. Take it away, Jack J (all sics are left in place in order to capture the heart of the comment)
I have been watching UT play since the 50s when Johnny Majors was an AA tailback/safety ( they played both ways and teams were subed as a unit- the whole sec team would go in at the same time) . I can never remember another time we have so inept at QB and coaching except ( maybe) for the year that UT- Chatt. beat us at home. There was a riot after the game that was very exciting.
New tack- Does this team practice at all? When they cant run a base play without running into each other-oh my God- we look like the old Ky teams of the 80S . And , just to frost your nutz a little more, they were not very upset after the game . That moron JC said that we could have won the game with a few breaks. I know the guy is stupid, now i am thinking he is also insane. And Foster ran his mouth all week long. Too bad his legs are not as active.
Good times in Knoxville, that’s for sure.
LSU Looks Like A Werewolf Again

Last season, after LSU crushed Virginia Tech, a comparison meme for LSU began. Someone said the Tigers reminded them of a werewolf with a chainsaw for a penis and after watching LSU actually move and score the ball against the dominant defense of Auburn, it looks like another full moon is rising in the south.
Game winning plays and such:
Is LSU, even after all the hype for the Gators and Georgia, still the team to beat in the SEC? Until they are beaten, that answer has to be yes.
The Flying Morenos Dominate Out West

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Knowshon Moreno diving over another hapless defender on his way to the end zone! While watching the Bulldogs play, you will believe that man can fly, especially when he wants to score a touchdown. Knowshon ran for a easier-than-it-looked 149 yards and two touchdowns, bringing his season total to nine. I’m wondering if we’ll get to see Moreno strike a Heisman pose the next time he’s airborne.
While Georgia did indeed dominate their Sun Devil opponents, it would be nice to see if Mark Richt can go for the jugular every once and while. I guess the only time he’ll allow himself to do that is when Georgia is playing Florida or Hawaii. Up next for the Bulldogs, war with Alabama. Should be a good time for all involved.
Loose Ends
Bama dominated Arkansas, Vanderbilt continues to say “Damn you and your misconceptions about Commodore football. Top 25. What?!?!!?” Virginia Tech showed they aren’t done yet against a game North Carolina squad, Texas continues to quietly mash teams while everyone focuses on Oklahoma, Ohio State looked lethargic as ever and BYU and Boise State are still thinking BCS busters.
IF Top Five
1. USC
2. LSU - Hard to vote against the defending champs
3. Georgia
4. Oklahoma
5. Florida
Others receiving consideration - Bama, Penn State, Texas. As for Missouri, their offense is damn impressive but can they stop any of the big boys in the Big 12?
