The college football Bowl season kicks off tonight when Utah and Navy do battle in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Kick-off is scheduled for a little after 8pm EST and ESPN will be taking care of the broadcast duties. Announcers for your game tonight are Rece Davis, Mark May, and Lou Holth.
Hopefully, Ole Lou won’t electrocute himself on his microphone.
Speaking of pain, can the sponsor name for tonight’s game be any longer please? A five-word descriptor is incredibly fun to type AND say. Although, it kinda puts the whole, “why we don’t have a playoff” discussion in perspective, doesn’t it?
The players to watch tonight are Utah’s Darrell Mack, who rushed for over 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns and the Navy quarterback with the incredible name, Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada. Kaheaku-Enhada leads the team with 782 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s also thrown for six more.
Enjoy the Bowl Season because it’s really all we have. EDSBS has a great preview of tonight’s game. “No, we ARE NOT the Holiday Bowl…”

For the six or seven households that have NFL Network, Steelers play the Rams at 8 pm.
Painfully long bowl game names give the good old boys running them a reason to swing their junk in the board room. It could be worse, imagine The Poinsettia Bowl Brought To You By The San Diego County Credit Union being repeated over and over during the game.

I’ve always wondered why companies like Lysol, Campbell’s or Kellog’s don’t sponsor a Bowl. The name play potential alone is infectious. Of course, seeing the title “New Orleans Bowl” makes me cringe every time.
