After falling ever so short in their last Hail Mary bid against the University of Kentucky, the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee got a chance to do it again last night against Florida Atlantic. This time, there was no Robbie McAtee to tackle anyone at the one-yard line.
First, the Kentucky play that Middle Tennessee almost pulled off:
As indicated, the Blue Raiders got a chance at a do-over last night, and this time, the final result was more to their liking:
Granted, this play wasn’t quite as exciting as the Kentucky ending, but this time, Middle Tennessee got the result they were looking for, courtesy of Joe Craddock’s 32-yard strike. While my memory doesn’t travel all the way back with college football, this has to be one of the first times a team has flirted with Hail Marys like this — two weeks ago, the Blue Raiders come up a yard short off of a Hail Mary attempt and last night, they get a level of redemption by gaining the extra yard that so cruelly eluded them in Lexington.
H/t to EDSBS for the video.
