Mark Richt

As if the Georgia/Alabama game needed more hype.

Continuing with the showmanship displayed the other day with black Alabama polo shirts and red Georgia tees at press conferences, Georgia coach Mark Richt showed up at practice wearing all black, saying he was preparing for a funeral. When asked if he was referring to the video featuring Alabama assistant coach Scott Cochran, Richt plead ignorance, saying he didn’t know what anyone was talking about.

Obviously, both Richt and Bama coach Nick Saban are having a blast with Georgia’s blackout announcement and their gamesmanship adds to what’s probably the best football match up of the upcoming weekend, including the NFL. If the on-field play can live up the growing hype, it could be a game for the ages; although, rarely do these turned out as planned. A lot of the time, the hype is much larger than the product it’s “endorsing.”

Bama/UGA will hopefully go against that trend. In other hopeful news, considering the playfulness of both coaches, can we expect this kind of celebration for whichever team scores first?

Lastly, UGA officials are looking to take Sanford Stadium into the 100,000 people crowd club with a multimillion dollar expansion project. The conceptual art shows the expanded design will continue being similar to Ohio State’s Horseshoe, but considering it’s in the SEC, Georgia’s stadium will be stronger and faster than the Buckeyes.
