Obama Declares War on the BCS

For those of you waiting to see what Barack Obama’s first executive decision would be, I think you have your answer.

The 44th President-elect was on 60 Minutes last night, dishing about this and that. As most of you know by now, he was asked about the BCS and his desire to see an 8-team college football playoff. From his perspective, such a novelty would only extend the season by a few weeks and would give college football a definitive national champion.

Besides being a brilliant reelection strategy for securing more southern state votes, some think Obama’s plan is long overdue change we can believe in, while others are as afraid of change as Joe the Plumber. Take, for instance, the response issued by BCS coordinator John Swofford:

“For now, our constituencies — and I know he understands constituencies — have settled on the current BCS system, which the majority believe is the best system yet to determine a national champion while also maintaining the college football regular season as the best and most meaningful in sports.”

I’m wondering who this majority is he’s talking about. These folks:

College Fans

Or folks like this:

Mike Slive

I believe I’m going with the latter.

One more thing: Please stop with the “it makes the regular season meaningless” argument. Please? Jockeying for position and trying to secure an open spot like it was a game of musical chairs goes on in all sports. Why does college football have to be so different? So we can keep the romantic dream of bowl games alive?

Nevertheless, BCS. You’ve been put on notice by the Obama regime.
