All Out Blitz - Pachyderms Eat Dawgs

Another wild weekend has come and gone and we saw a group of pachyderms crush some dawgs, Oklahoma rise to the top, Houston hanging his Nutts on the Florida Gators, Rich Rodriguez perhaps save Michigan’s season and too much more to even mention.

The highlight of the weekend was Bama/Georgia and boy, it didn’t disappoint — provided you root for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. Meaningless second half point notwithstanding, Bama’s victory over Georgia was so definitive, they look like the class of a stacked SEC conference. 31-0? At the half? What happened, Coach Richt? Were you more worried about the blackout than you were getting your players ready?

In Gainesville, Tim Tebow was stopped short on a fourth and one, giving Ole Miss the 31-30 victory. Let your Houston Nutts hang, indeed.

In other news, Tennessee and Auburn continue to set SEC offenses back about 100 years. LSU took care of Mississippi State in a ho-hum, 34-24 win. Bama looks to be the class team of the SEC West as of today, but that could quickly change when they travel to Baton Rouge in November. Until then Bama has to deal with Kentucky, Ole Miss and Tennessee; all winnable games.

Sorry, I’m not counting Arkansas State.

In other, non-SEC news, Oklahoma looks like they are trying to be the class of the BCS, but I think I’ll wait until they play Texas (in two weeks) before I pencil them in for the championship game. Admittedly, it will be hard for anyone on their schedule to stop the Sooner offense but I’m still waiting until more of their schedule is taken care of.

How good is Penn State? Are they the class of the Big Ten? With their nifty spread little offense, the Nittany Lions look like they can score on any of their opponents. We’ll know more after this upcoming stretch of four games — at Purdue, at Wisconsin, Michigan at home, at Ohio State. If Penn State comes through that mess undefeated, it might be time to start talking BCS and Rose Bowl games.

How about them Duke Blue Devils? Can they really get bowl eligible this season? They are only three wins away. Speaking of the ACC, it looks like Virginia Tech is trying to make a statement after their win in Lincoln, easily the highest profile win for the ACC conference, unless you consider NC State beating East Carolina to be more noticeable.

However, this is the ACC we are talking about, so I’m not sure any of that matters.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide — Did Saban really rebuild this quickly?
2. Oklahoma Sooners — No question, really. Not after this past weekend.
3. LSU — National Champs are still undefeated
4. Texas — No one’s talking about what Mack Brown is cooking in Austin.
5. Missouri — Fantastic offense and suspect defense.

Are we looking at a Nick Saban/Bob Stoops National Championship rematch? Right now we are. Check back next week because I’m sure everything will change by then. Who knows? Maybe my Cats can do the unthinkable and win in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
