SEC Officials Save Face. Again.

SEC Refs

For the second week in a row, the brains who run the most popular college football conference in America are having to apologize for refereeing ineptitude that once again influenced the outcome of the highly contested Florida/Arkansas game. SEC officials have apologized to Arkansas, saying the personal foul call on Malcolm Sheppard was incorrect and no additional yards should have been awarded. First, here’s the play in question:

As indicated, the SEC admitted the referees made a mistake penalizing Sheppard, a fact I’m sure helps Bobby Petrino’s team sleep easier now, much like A.J. Green, the previous victim of a bogus call from an SEC referee. Here is the SEC’s statement, filled with a corporate-speak version of “our bad,” something I’m sure helps the Razorbacks get over the Florida loss that much easier:

“As is standard procedure, following each game, institutions will send a list of plays from its previous game to the conference office for review and comment. We have been in contact with Arkansas concerning this review from its game against Florida. We did communicate to Arkansas that, after video review, there was no evidence on the video to support the personal foul penalty called on Arkansas midway through the fourth quarter. The other calls that were referenced are judgment calls and a review of those calls have been communicated to Arkansas.”

See? All better now.

  1. Bryan Says:

Yeah, somehow I don’t think an apology is quite gonna cut it. Pathetic.

  2. Chris Says:

“Sorry guys. You still have to take the loss, though.”

Yeah, that sounds like it would make everything better.
