Alfonso Soriano

Introducing yet another tale of athletes and their fans who like to become popular by posting suggestive photographs of themselves with said athlete on their public social networking profile. In this case, the involved parties are Alfonso Soriano and his sidekick and opportunist, Keri Wiesen.

Besides being another in a long line of attention whoring sycophants an adept social networker, Miss Weisen is also an accomplished poet. Her words helped inspire the caption in the lead image.

It’s becoming quite obvious most athletes are as oblivious about the workings of the Internet as Senator Ted “Bridge to Nowhere” Stevens and his legendary “series of tubes” brilliance. While Mark Cuban is reminding every athlete who will listen that, thanks to Josh Howard, camera phones aren’t our friends, folks like Alfonso Soriano continue pose for pictures with opportunistic fans who don’t care about the marriage status of the athletes they are being piggy-backed by.

Nor do they care about the privacy of these players when it comes to increasing their own popularity.

Granted, Wiesen is not completely to blame for posting these pictures. Maybe next time, Soriano or another athlete will be a little more thoughtful when it comes to who they take pictures with — and maybe the Kansas City Royals will win the World Series this year, too.

I’ll be holding my breath in anticipation. Call the doctors if I turn blue.
