Who Wins The Blake Griffin Sweepstakes?

The NBA Lottery selection is tonight, and you know what that means: time to break out all those NBA Draft conspiracy theories in case we have to figure out why the Oklahoma Thunder are picking first. I mean, there’s absolutely no way their ball would just happen to be the selection unless it was a league-wide (and beyond, considering the mechanics in selecting their first pick) conspiracy, headed by David Stern, right?

Oklahoma has an 11 percent chance to win the Blake Griffin Sweepstakes NBA Lottery, while the team with the worst record, Sacramento, has 25 percent. In case you forgot, Chicago had less than 2 percent chance when they won the Derrick Rose Sweepstakes last season.

I’m guessing it was fixed then to, seeing how Rose is a native Chicagoan.

Another point, how come no one screams about a fix when the Clippers get a high pick, or even a number one — something they haven’t done since 1998, meaning they are due tonight? Because the Clippers draft players like Michael Olowokandi and continue their existence as a laughing stock, that’s why.

Self-answering questions aside, the top picks look they are going to be Griffin, Ricky Rubio — although, after reading this post, I’m not sure why either — and Thabeet from UConn. Looking at the lottery finalists, everybody but the Minnesota Timberwovles would probably draft Griffin if they won the first pick.

When you consider the injury to Al Jefferson’s knee, however, having a player like Griffin waiting in the wings isn’t necessarily a bad franchise move.

As for the potentially overrated Rubio, some Kings fans think that’s the way their franchise is leaning, which sounds like a big mistake to me. No offense to current players, but I’m not sure Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson inspire the kind of “whoa-like” reaction Griffin does. Rubio is known as a magician with the ball, while Griffin is known as a monster.

Looking at Sacto’s record — 17-65, only 8 games better than the worst record ever — what do you think they need more? An undersized guard who may take some time transitioning to the NBA game or a player with the body of a T-800, combined with Shawn Kemp’s jaw-dropping athleticism?

Seems like an easy choice to me.
