Greg Oden

As we get closer and closer to the start of the NBA’s regular season — next Tuesday — rookie performances that stand out tend to get noticed more, much like Derrick Rose did yesterday. You can add Greg Oden to that list of rookies perform well after he collected his first (preseason) double-double of his career, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

At least two of his buckets came from powerful dunks, which we have below:

Oden played 29 minutes last night as he continues to show no ill effects from last year’s leg troubles. One area of concern is his lack of blocked shots. During the preseason, Oden is averaging .8 blocks per game while teammates like Shavlik Randolph and Nicolas Batum are averaging more than one per contest. Again, this is preseason ball, so these stats don’t mean an awful lot and one expects Oden’s defensive presence to improve as the season goes along.

Has there been a more anticipated “rookie” debut — except for perhaps LeBron James — in recent memory?

hated him in school but am really going to enjoy watching him make the west even bettermhope he doesnt pull a sam bowie tho,do you think posey to the hornets can put them over the top?

The Celtics were dumb for letting Posey go, but I’m not sure if he’ll be enough for the Hornets to get past the Lake show or Houston for that matter. The key for the Rockets, of course, is to keep everyone healthy. I think the Suns and Mavs are also rans and if Ginobili doesn’t heal, the Spurs will be too.
