The first winner for the Intentional Upsets designation is the NBA, Sacramento and Orlando:

Sacramento Kings – 104
Orlando Magic – 100

The oft-injured Kings held on against a furious comeback attempt from the Magic, who scored 38 4th quarter points. The Kings were paced by John Salmons, who had 21 points and by Brad Miller’s 20 point, 4 rebound and 6 assists effort. Leading the Magic was, of course, Dwight Howard, who posted a gaudy stat line of 29 points and 15 rebounds, while shooting 11-13 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line.

The Kings had to hold on down the stretch as the Magic rallied to trim the Kings lead to 3; something the Sactown Royalty folks didn’t enjoy very much. However, there was pleasure to be had when they secured their 13th win of the year.

I’m sure Lisa of Sacto’s Dance Team enjoyed it as well.

I can’t wait to see Intentional Upsets once late February and early March roll around for the NBA, when the league goes into ‘OMFG it ain’t even close to the playoffs’ mode.
