Riding the inconsistently broad shoulders of Kevin Garnett — no disappearing act last night — the Celtics beat the Detroit Pistons, 88-79. In what looked like a harbinger of things to come, the two teams played a grind-it-out style focusing on defense and making the opponent work for open shots. Unfortunately for Detroit, they couldn’t muster much of an attack.
For Boston, KG and Paul Pierce led the way, but a lot of credit needs to be given to Rajon Rondo and his two huge baskets he hit in the closing minutes of the game. As for the Pistons, if they want to make this a series, they are going to need a lot more than 20 combined points from Rasheed and Chauncey.
