Is tonight the night we find out if Chauncey Billups’ hamstring is back to normal or not? How about the rest of the Pistons? Will someone manage to score more than 15 points against the Celtics? Will they have an inside game to speak of?
Billups indicates there are no lingering effects from his weird splits/hamstring injury and that he plans on being aggressive tonight but after game, the rest of the sports world should have a good idea if he is being honest or not. If he only manages six shot attempts tonight, chances are Jameer Nelson’s foot did more damage than we were led to believe.
As for the Celtics, their simple question is this — can they continue to protect their home turf or will they fall victim to one of the better road teams in the NBA (25-16 during the season)? While Boston seems capable of going undefeated at home through the playoffs, teams like the Pistons (and the Spurs and Lakers) love taking teams out on their home court. How long will the Celtics be able to keep their playoff home record unblemished?
In the above picture, we have KG and `Sheed and on Tuesday night, KG got the better of that match-up, going for 26 and 9. How is Wallace going to respond? Will he settle for perimeter jump shots or will he actually make Garnett try and defend him in the paint? If `Sheed responds in a big way and Chauncey’s hammy is actually in good shape, the Celtics will have their hands full and their home court perfection (through the Playoffs) will be in jeopardy.
However, if both Billups and Wallace play like role players again, the Celtics will end the evening up 2-0.
The fun begins at 8:30/7:30 Central on ESPN.
