The NBA is about to unveil their latest edition of their All-Star game festivities and while it may have petered out from time-to-time, there’s really no denying the NBA’s version is the Best. All-Star. Ever. The NHL, NFL, and MLB fail in comparison, even though Baseball tried to up the ante by making their All-Star exhibition game “meaningful.”
I’m sorry, letting the World Series home-field advantage be determined by the outcome of an exhibition is just silly.
With the NBA, you never have to worry about anything that misguided. Instead, you get the overly slept-on Rookie Challenge where the NBA’s newest crop of stars competes against their second year counterparts, the 3-point Shoot-out, the Skills Challenge (OK,that’s kinda boring) and the oft-discussed Slam Dunk Contest.
While the veneer of the dunk contest has worn off when compared to the 1980s, in my eyes, it still delivers… just ask Desmond Mason (his between-the-legs left-handed dunk is one of the best individual dunks I’ve EVER seen [30 second mark]).
Of course, any event that can get Marvin Gaye to sing the National Anthem is tops with me as well.
But, we can’t forget about the actual game either. Admittedly, the NBA All-Star game is an odd game to watch because what you is have is three quarters of exhibition. But in the fourth quarter, the teams start playing defense as pride and the desire to win takes over. The end result is normally a high-scoring, contested affair featuring the best basketball players on the planet.
It’s hard to go wrong with that.
The festivities start tomorrow with the Rookie Challenge and continue throughout the weekend, culminating in Sunday’s game. Speaking of, who ya got? East or West?

Based on what he’s cooking up, Dwight will not only “deliver” at the dunk contest with great entertainment, he’ actually has a pretty solid chance of winning this year:

The one stunt he does, the mid-air, bounce-off-the-backboard, left-hand-right-hand dunk, that’s sick.
PS. Random — I LOVE your anti-spam riddle, so much more creative than the usual image stuff.

In my Dunk Contestants post, I actually pick D-Howard as my fave… but he has to use that amazing sticker again.
