Can Beanie Wells Get Healthy?

That, friends, might be one of the last successful highlights of Chris “Beanie” Wells’ fledgling career if he can’t get his ankle under control. While he’s obviously a hard, effective runner — when he’s healthy — the problem is staying away from the training room. Hell, Wells was even victimized by his lack of durability against Texas, a game where Wells was getting whatever yards he wanted (16 carries for 106 yards), until, that is, he got a concussion. In fact, Wells was plagued by nagging injuries at Ohio State and it looks like the durability issues are following him to Arizona.

After hurting his ankle after signing his rookie contract, Wells tried to rejoin his teammates on Tuesday. The result? Wells hurt his ankle. Again.

It’s unfortunate for Wells because the Cardinals certainly have playing time to offer a young stud of a running back, something Wells represents, provided he can stay — say it with me now — healthy. While Tim Hightower has a serviceable season in 2008 (10 touchdowns but only 399 yards), he’s more suited as a short-yardage back. Wells, when he’s… what’s the word again? Healthy? Anyway, when he’s at that point, he looks like he could be a starting back who averages over 20 touches a game.

The question is, can Wells shake the injury bug, while providing a little more faith to the “I am durable” claim? Or will nagging injuries like ankles and concussions follow him for the rest of his career?

You’re absolutely right bro. Wells could be a total stud in Arizona’s offense. That really sucks for them. I mean can you imagine having him in the backfield to open up the offense with the likes of Boldin and Fitzgerald on the edges. Yikes. He’s a young dude though so he’s got some time to get that ankle healed. Hopefully. For Cardinals’ fans sake.
