NFL Free Agency Orgy
February 27th, 2009 at 11:01 amBy Chris

“Just got paid. It’s Friday night. Party hunting, feeling right.”
The NFL’s free agency period started at midnight, this morning, and there have already been some significant signings, none quite as big as Albert Haynesworth going to Washington for a bank-breaking $100 million. The Haynesworth deal is for seven years, with $41 million being guaranteed. After signing the human defensive wall away from the Titans, the Redskins didn’t stop there, also re-signing defensive back DeAngelo Hall for $55 million over six years. Keep up with the NFL free agency signings here and, well, all over the place, actually. I’ll be contributing at Cincy Jungle as well, along with Josh and the rest of the gang.
Bart Scott to the Jets

The former Ravens linebacker is heading to the Big Apple to reunite with head coach Rex Ryan, his defensive coordinator while Scott was in Baltimore. The deal is expected to be for $8 million per. It looks like the Ravens reign as one of the most feared defenses in the league might be coming to an end — especially if Ray Lewis joins Scott and departs Maryland for a different team.
Update: Not so fast on Bart Scott to the Jets? Looks like someone might be getting cold feet.
Update 2: The Jets and Scott agree on a six-year worth $48 million. The Jets ended all the “back to Baltimore” speculation by offering an additional year.
More updates as they come.
- Jonathan Vilma signs with New Orleans.
- Chris Crocker re-signs with the Bengals.
- Ravens sign DB Domonique Foxworth to help cover their potential free agency losses.

Holy Jeebus that’s a lot of dead presidents. The guy is a total stud tho and is probably Haynesworth every penny. Not sure that was a good move for him but, as they say, money talks. Meh, the ‘Skins are due for a good year so it might work out for him. Congrats you rich mother scratcher.

According to Peter King, Hayneworth’s contract is more like 4 years at $48 mil. He doesn’t think the Skins will pick up those additional years.
