Plaxico’s Unfortunate Half Stache

Now, I’m not trying to kick a man in the same leg he shot while he’s down, but damn, sometimes athletes confound me with their grooming habits. What we have here is disgraced receiver Plaxico Burress during his interview with ESPN’s Jeremy Schapp. The interview itself is standard fare with Burress trying his best to accept the blame for the shooting incident that threatens to rob him of the rest of his NFL career. Besides the dubious reasons for why the gun went off — Actually yes, Plaxico, I do think that if you fumble with a non-safetied gun while it’s sliding down your pants, having said gun go off is not that far-fetched of an idea. — it was a fairly successful showing for Burress, all things considered.
The problem, at least for me, comes with Burress’ facial hair.
Notice he’s well-groomed, sporting what looks like a fresh shave and a well-coiffed mustache/goatee combination. Unfortunately, Plaxico’s mustache is the problem. That is, the 35-50% of it that’s missing. Look on the left side of Burress’ mouth. Isn’t lip hair supposed to extend to both corners of the mouth?
Not in the Burress house, apparently.
No, obviously the style here is to stop one side of the `stache shortly after it passes the philtrum dimple. It’s either that or Plax’s personal groomer had a case of the shaky hands while making him presentable for Jeremy Schapp. Although, whenever I have a facial hair grooming mishap, I normally remove the offending remainder, be it chin or lip hair. With that in mind, I’m leaning towards Burress’ half-stache was indeed intentional. Much like the foul.
I don’t know, maybe I’m missing out on some new kind of facial hair trend; although, I think this is one case where I don’t mind feeling my age. For more on Plaxico’s weird-looking pencil mustache, check out his interview on ESPN’s 360 program.
Good interview. Horrible facial hair grooming choices. Oh, and bad judgement with guns, too.

Of all the things to notice during this interview….he carried a loaded gun with the safety off. Why would he know how to use a razor properly?

Oh, I noticed his explanation it was a fluke accident the gun went off:
“Actually yes, Plaxico, I do think that if you fumble with a non-safetied gun while it’s sliding down your pants, having said gun go off is not that far-fetched of an idea.”
Because, yeah, the idea your fingers wouldn’t hit the trigger while you are trying to grab it is truly far-fetched. But his stache stood out more.
