Santonio Holmes Picks Up Where He Left Off

Yay!!!! The NFL is back!!! It’s on NBC and it rocks — even with unnecessary pregame concerts!!! OK, enough hyperbole, although, I was being serious about that pregame mess. I just don’t think we need recycled pop country and a pale imitation of the Black Eyed Peas — I’m sorry, but they need to ditch Fergie and pursue the course “Joints and Jams” started them off on, instead of making weak pop music — to get us in the mood for a football game. If anything, hardcore metal would be the prudent choice, but I’m digressing.

It was entertaining game for such a low scoring affair. Hey, what can I say? I enjoy watching two teams knock the piss out of each other for three hours. In the end, Pittsburgh got the overtime victory thanks, in large part, to them abandoning the run and letting Roethlisberger throw the ball.

His favorite receiver during the game? Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes, who provided a little bit of eeriness for the stat watchers.

Not only did Holmes score the last touchdown of the 2008 season, he also scored the first touchdown of the 2009 season. The similarities, however, do not end there. Holmes stats for the Super Bowl were as follows: 9 catches for 131 yards and touchdown. His stats from last night’s game? 9 catches for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Somebody queue the Twilight Zone music.

If you asked me (or a bookie for that matter) the odds of such a thing happening, you’d get a damn good reason to make a long shot bet. As it stands, I’m now expecting Holmes’ season to be an exact reverse mirror image in 2009. Don’t be surprised if, in Week 2, Holmes finishes with 2 catches for
