There’s No Tieing In Football

Right? Or is there?
As you already know, the Philadelphia Eagles/Cincinnati Bengals game ended in with a putrid 13-13 tie, the first for the NFL since 2002. Even though Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was part of the league then, after yesterday’s 75-minute error fest, McNabb admitted he wasn’t aware the NFL used the tie system if neither team scores in the allotted overtime.
While a lot is being made about the dumbassery on display, the Philadelphia press thinks yesterday’s game was a sign change is coming. Bob Ford thinks, in regards to the Eagles, a tie equals a loss. For a team fighting for its playoff life in the infamous NFC East, it’s hard to argue with Ford’s idea. Another Philly columnist, Ashley Fox, thinks this season might be McNabb’s curtain call.
For all the preseason talk about how strong he felt and what great shape he was in, McNabb hasn’t exactly done much to prevent his exit. He hasn’t orchestrated one of those come-from-behind fourth-quarter drives. He hasn’t led the Eagles to those wins they should have gotten against Chicago and Washington. He hasn’t overcome faulty coaching or bad play-calling.
Since the bye week, McNabb has been horribly erratic, completing just 53.8 percent of his passes in the last four games and throwing six touchdown passes and five interceptions. That 2-1-1 record since the bye week has not helped.
Is it time for the Kevin Kolb reclamation project to begin in 2009? Not that this excuses McNabb’s apparent ignorance, but maybe if the Eagles do make some kind of franchise shift, they’ll give his successor more weapons than simply Brian Westbrook.

That’s so weak. The NFL needs to go the college route and start each team from, say, the 35 intstead of the 25. Just a thought. Ridiculous.

Of course, the way that game went, both teams could very still be playing this morning if that was the rule.

neither,its time to move on,i was watching kolb and mcnabb in warm ups and every ball kolb threw led the receiver and was beautiful,i knew it was gonna be a long day when i watched them have to slow down or turn around to catch mcnabb crap,mcnabb is very good but were is it getting us and dont get me started on reid,hes as yellow as the day is long,3rd and 1 passes do not help ur line build confidence,i was very proud of the defense,they were on the field all day due to 5’s numerous mistakes and inefficiency and play tough all day,fire reid and trade 5
