If Intentional Foul had a news of the weird section, this story would be the headliner. In a Twilight Zone-like announcement, the folks at Dave and Thomas popcorn have announced a partnership with the NFL on Fox’s leading broadcast booth duo: Troy Aikman and Joe Buck. Dude.

The two will be the face for the new, limited edition “Troy Aikman, Joe Buck & Chef Ed Football Box.” For the low, low price of $42, popcorn lovers will receive:
- 2 – foot-long bags of Troy Aikman’s Halftime Chili and Sour Cream Popcorn
- 2 – foot-long bags of Joe Buck’s Dark Fudge DrizzleCorn™ with Praline Almonds Popcorn
- 4 – foot-long bags of other Dale and Thomas’ popcorn flavors
- A 9-inch diameter Limited Edition Collectible Glass Bowl
If you are that ate up with your popcorn eating habits, Troy, Joe and Ed have heard your calling and are bringing some popcorn joy your way.
Bonus (from the presser):
Most excitingly ten of these limited edition boxes will contain an authentic signed letter from Joe Buck and Troy Aikman that will entitle the recipient to an autographed football from these two football greats.
Um, while Troy’s football greatness can be verified by the Dallas Cowboys, I’m not sure I remember much about Joe’s playing days…
If you are interested in ordering your popcorn pack, the site promises they will arrive in time for the “biggest day in football,” which can only mean the Super Bowl… oh wait, is that trademarked?

Nah, biggest day in football is the start of the draft, so we can see who’s going to overpay Darren McFadden to be Ron Dayne circa 2008.
Oh, and anyone who pays $42 for popcorn should have his head examined.

Chef Ed is a football great? Awesome.
In all seriousness, however, I much prefer when sports journalists are actual journalists by schooling, and have grown tired of the same few tried-and-true phrases overused by the likes of Aikman. “They need to establish an offensive rhythm.” “He’ll break tackles if the defense doesn’t wrap him up.” The list of locker-room drivel goes on…
That said, Buck needs to go back to baseball. He’s actually knowledgeable and his perpetual droning helps fill the ceremonial 5-minutes-per-pitch warmups. I still don’t see why he and Aikman are Fox’s #1 team - I much prefer Moose ‘n Goose.

Does anyone have any stats for Joe Buck’s football career?
January 2nd, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Nonesuch.
No mention of any football career on Buck’s Wikipedia Entry, anyway.

George Plimpton had more of an NFL career than Joe Buck.
