Now that the state of emergency has been canceled in Nashville and Vince Young has been safely returned (Plain clothes SWAT team members were called in during the search for Vince? Really?), the fallout and speculation is beginning to take hold. That is, is Vince Young about done playing football?
If his mother’s comments are anything to go by, Young’s future might be spent with his meat business instead of studying zone blitzes. According to Young’s mother, the Titans quarterback is having a hard time handling the negative reaction his quarterbacking produces.
Young’s reaction to being booed is what led the Titans to involve the police when Young turned up missing. Apparently, his actions up until then were reason enough for the level of concern. However, not everyone in Young’s camp sees it this way. Take Major Harris, Young’s agent, for instance:
As for reports about depression or Young’s fragile emotional state, Adams told Smith they’re “unfounded.” “It’s the first time I’ve heard that. I know he’s not battling depression,” Adams said. “He’s fine mentally. I think it’s a misunderstanding and misinformation.”
This leads to some questions though — if Vince is “fine,” why is his mother telling The Tennessean her son needs love and support to get through this. I thought Harris said there was no “this” to worry about. Also, if worries about Young’s emotional state are unfounded, why would his mother say he’s hurting “inside and out?”
Obviously, Young’s mother isn’t on board with the spin being offered by Vince’s handlers. Making matters even more interesting is Young’s injury, an MCL issue that’s supposed to keep him out for at least two weeks. It’s a safe bet we’ll know where Vince’s head is at by then.
Until that time, enjoy your Kerry Collins redux, Titans fans.
