As expected, the 2007 Heisman Trophy award went to Florida’s Tim Tebow, becoming the first ever sophomore to win college football’s most prestigious award. In doing so, Tebow beat out Arkansas’ Darren McFadden, Missouri’s Chase Daniel, and Hawaii’s Colt Brennan.

It’s kinda slow going as we wait on things like the bowl games to begin, NFL Sunday (did anyone watch last night’s Washington/Chicago game?), weekend college basketball and anything else deemed sports-blog worthy. Here’s a little link love for of some stories that caught my eye as I made my way through the Google Reader. Enjoy:

Hawai’i (the way the University spells it) has a chance to throw a big, greasy monkey wrench into the well-oiled machine that is the BCS College Football Championship, a system that runs smoother than a baby’s bottom… or perhaps a plot of cacti. As pointed at by Dan Shanoff over at Deadspin, what happens if Georgia shows up to the Sugar Bowl flat and the Rainbow Warriors beat them senseless? Something like a 49-14 game?

A couple of members of the Florida Gators football team–past and present–are getting restless waiting for their Capital One bowl game against Michigan on January 1st, 2008. Of course, having to wait over a month between games can cause a level of stir craziness, which can lead to these types of situations.

As you could expect, when it comes to the BCS and its version of Selection Sunday, there is a ton of reaction from the sports blogosphere. Here are a few that caught my eye and do a good job of portraying the madness that went down this past weekend.

Well, it’s LSU and Ohio State. Is that a satisfactory conclusion or does the 2007 season have so many questions attached that, under the current system used by the BCS, there’s not much else you can do? Say what you will about the BCS–and it’s probably all true–but it certainly generates A LOT of discussion. Besides, who needs a playoff when there’s this much confusion.

In a perfect world, the BCS wouldn’t exist and the lead division of college football would be prepping for their own version of Selection Sunday (and I’d be married to Monica Bellucci, but I digress). Well, thanks to the guys at the Bama Nation forum (via Yahoo), we now have an idea about how [...]

There are a lot of opinions about the NCAA’s use of the BCS to decide their national champion in college football and most of them are not very supportive. In fact, most commentary throws this particular method under a bus, hoping it will get crushed under the wheels, making way for a playoff system. While it’s doubtful this will ever happen in my lifetime, hoping for a brighter future isn’t a bad thing.

Well, that didn’t last long: The Ricky Williams comeback experiment lasted all of six carries… at least for this season. Williams was injured when Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons stepped on his shoulder while chasing after the loose ball, courtesy of Ricky’s fumble. NFL.com has a video of the incident on their site, but of course, the control freaks that make up the NFL leadership corps doesn’t allow their videos to be embedded. I guess that goes back to that whole 45 second rule that came out during the last off-season.
